PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A spring snowstorm has created a winter wonderland in parts of northern New England. But it's also sent dozens of cars sliding off roads, knocked out power to thousands and given tens of thousands of schoolchildren a surprise snow day.
In Maine it dropped as much as a foot of snow.
At the peak, more than 60,000 homes and businesses in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island were without electricity. In Maine, utility crews planned to work through the night to restore service for customers.
